Weekends In Quarantine

Is it actually Saturday tomorrow? Or just another day?

Now that many of us have been working from home, everyday can feel identical—whether it’s Tuesday or Saturday, it feels about the same.

Pre-quarantine our weekday mornings were usually defined by dressing for work, commuting, and responding to overflowing inboxes. Nowadays, we skip the makeup, enjoy a home-cooked breakfast, and squeeze in a meditation, opposed to rushing out the door. This is our routine Monday through Sunday…Not having to “be somewhere” or “get somewhere” as soon as possible has been quite nice. We have found ourselves being able to carve out a morning routine that’s slow and calm. On the whole, we’re grateful to have this capacity to take control of our days. But sometimes it does feel like our daily routines are a broken record, perpetually playing on repeat. And, separating work and personal spaces, and weekdays to weekends has been challenging. No more, “going out” out on a Friday night to mark the start of the weekend or long brunch conversations on a Sunday—to recap the happenings from the night before.

Has quarantine killed the weekend? Is this bad or actually okay? We’re still trying to figure this out, along with everyone else. We do hope that we’ll look back at this time and be glad that we shaped our days into what truly works of us. We don’t know if we’ll ever adjust fully or what that means…but let’s just say, we are excited to see our routines continue to evolve.
