An Ode To Ourselves

When we think of a love story, we usually think of two people (and often, with a lack of diversity)—from Romeo & Juliet, Lara Jean & Peter Kavinsky, to Gisele & Tom Brady, our parents, or maybe even ourselves and our s/o.

We recently stumbled upon @theshineapp “52 Self-Love Stories” and were reminded that there’s a whole world of forgotten and untold love stories—about another incredibly important relationship—the one with ourselves.

“The power of self-love is greater than any other relationship. After all, you’re there for you, through thick and thin, no matter what.”

This week we’re planning on writing our own love story, reflecting on how we treat ourselves, relate to ourselves, and ultimately show ourselves some love! First we wanted to share some snippets that have inspired us—

💫 “After going through a big disappointment in life that brought me to the verge of collapsing physically and mentally, I understood that everything can be overcome if you manage to put yourself first from time to time.”

💫 “When my dad passed away and I didn’t like being hard on myself anymore. Life is short and I had a reality check that moved me to my core.”

💫 “After my last breakup, I realized that I wasn’t giving myself the love I know I deserved. I was waiting for someone else to love me and validate me. At the end of the day, I’ll always have my own back so I might as well accept the fact that no one will love you unless you love yourself first.”

Self-love isn’t an easy relationship. It takes practice, patience, empathy, and a lot of learning and re-learning. But it’s worth it 🥰🥰
